How to create an Appealing and Effective Display Window
- Dec 25, 2017
Having an appealing window display is important for attracting customers, when you either run a store inside of a mall or in a plaza. A window display gives you the opportunity to show the passersby what you sell, what special deals you currently have, and the overall tone of your store.
People's attention spans grow ever shorter, because we get so distracted easily. That is why a great window display is extremely important to get one's attention, draw them into your store, and give them lasting impressions. Here are a handful of tips for making a great looking display window that will impress and invite many kinds of consumers.
Make sure that your signs are big and legible.
When displaying signage, you would like brand names, prices, messages, and more to easily be seen and read from anywhere. For effectiveness, use bold fonts and large amounts of contrast with the sign and text for better readability. Make sure that you do not obstruct the sign with a mannequin or another product.
Provide your display with 3D visuals.
A flat window display that can only be seen from head on or in one angle is not as effective as it should be. Turn mannequins, signs and display items so that at least something in your window can attract attention from anybody outside from any angle. An acrylic riser can also help you display items in creative ways and will save space inside the display zone.
Decide whether or not you would want a background.
Putting a cool background behind your display window gives you endless possibilities for how to present products from outside your store. You can use solid colors, patterns, gradients, or other designs to help grab one's attention. If you run a store with beach apparel, you can put a mannequin in front of a beach background that will help envision consumers of a pleasant experience while wearing the same clothes as that of the mannequin.
On the same side of the coin, customers would prefer to see inside the store from the window as well, which is one reason not to use a background.
If you would like to consider both, have a background that covers only the center of the window, and will allow the store's interior to be visible along the window's edges.
Don't be afraid to leave your comfort zone.
There is nothing wrong with trying new things when it comes to your window display. No display lasts eternally, as a matter of fact, you should change the items in your display every week or month to feature new or hot items that you have for sale. If your concept does not work out, you can always make changes to it at any time.
Find a great balance of products and props.
Of course, you wouldn't like to display all mannequins or all signage. Franchise stores will typically get away with doing this since they will always be doing strong business. To stand out against your bigger competitors, you need to get creative by adding props that will really feature your products. The ideal display window has a mannequin or two, some smaller products on acrylic risers, and a sign that explains a great deal about what you might have.
Adjust your lighting accordingly.
Lighting will be effective when used in the right way and will be ineffective when it isn't. Using only overhead lights will cast unappealing shadows about your display zone, so you can also use spotlight, uprights, and colored lights to create pleasant and appropriate moods for the kind of store that you are managing.
